If, Bwana - Clara Nostra

Clara Nostra (cla-ruh nose-truh) began life as Clarinots (cla-ru knots ),' a 30 minute work for 106,476 clarinets originally released on the Sound of Pig cassette Horn & Hard Arts (SOP 197). You may ask yourself "106,476 clarinets?" And you would be right to do so. The, original recording of 4 separate clarinet tracks was bounced back and forth between the 4 track, an 8 track and a 2 track, slowed up, speeded up and generally bounced and re-bounced so that the end result technically should have, yup, 106,476 clarinets (see score inside).

The work enjoyed a relatively quiet cassette existence until the request came for a "work for elevator" from John Morton (former Electric Eel and at that time leader of Amoeba (raft)boy). His wife curated an art gallery and they wanted some music for the elevator. So Clarinots e/de/volved into a slightly remixed half speed version (read 62 minute). Very minimal/maximal, very static, very rumbly, darkand deep. Thus Clara Nostra (our clara, clear nostrils) was born.
