DRAM partners with American Sublime to present the music of Morton Feldman

Posted on Tuesday, May 31, 2011

For those visitors unfamiliar with DRAM's holdings, composer Matthew Welch has provided a playlist of Feldman related recordings in the collection.  The playlist begins with recordings, many of which are either performed or conducted by Feldman himself, representing a cross-section of the composer’s entire career.  John Cage, Christian Wolff, and Earle Brown are also featured as peers influencing and being influenced by Morton Feldman, and the playlist ends with composers from later generations whose own work, while taking Feldman as a starting point, has utilized his very specific language as a springboard for their own personal styles.

This playlist is intended as an entry point into the work of Morton Feldman and the composers surrounding him as peers and musical descendants.  By no means does it represent a complete view of any of the composers, but will hopefully provide some new directions for musical research that will bring the listener to a deeper understanding of Feldman's language and provide an even richer experience to those lucky enough to attend the live performances of American Sublime: The Late Works of Morton Feldman in Philadelphia.
